The Emerald Princess by Kayla Stewart
Halloween is just around the corner and my kids are all talking about what they want to dress up as.
Sewing costumes is a love of mine, especially when it comes to princess dresses. As a girl I always wanted to be a costume designer and now I’m living that life though sewing costumes for my kids and I love it! My girls love the Disney princesses but they love to make up their own princess characters more. This time my oldest daughter dreamed up the Emerald princess and I got to work.
I used Wild Seeds Cerise dress and added length. For the front split I cut one extra skirt piece and cut it in half and gave it a deep hem on the ends that meet in the middle. I then hand embroidered and embellished with beads and gold trim. For the sleeves I did the long bell sleeve option and add a bit more width to the bottom to flare out more and also added embroidery and beads. I added a stiff tulle skirt underneath to add body to the dress.
Over all I wanted to make a dress that was fun, durable for play and affordable. I used a solid quilting cotton for the dress and added embellishments to fancy it up. To complete our look we added the perfect accessories that every princess needs. Amazon is an amazing place to find crowns!
We then skipped off on a mini trip and took pictures and a castle themed amphitheater that made this dress all the more magical for her! I hope you enjoy this dress as much as we do.
