Birthday Barbie Wishes - by Estienne Carlson

 

The newest Birthday Wishes Barbie was my inspiration for a custom costume. I love her pretty pink ruffles dress and the overskirt added a fun element to my project. When I saw the straight neckline, I thought the Wisteria pattern would be a perfect match for making this dress.

I didn't make any changes to the bodice except for altering the straps to create a halter neck style.

To keep the skirt from being too voluminous, I cut a 1/4 circle skirt. Then, I cut strips of tulle measuring 4 inches (or 10cm) to create gathered ruffles. I spaced these ruffles evenly and sewed them onto the skirt.

For the overskirt, I cut a rectangle with curved edges and added the same ruffles around the side and bottom edges. I finished the top edge by folding a ribbon over the edge and edge stitching it to the skirt.
