April Sewing Competition - Lots of dots

"There is never a wrong time for a polka dot"  Marc Jacobs

Dots is definitely one of my favourite prints and the entries this month didn't disappoint. Every month Im blown away by everyones interpretation and creativity!

This months winner is Lauren Williams who made a polkadot tulle Anemone and customised the bodice so the it features an illusion neckline.

"Lily is probably one of my most used dresses. I love how versatile it is. When I saw this fabric, I knew immediately the look I wanted to create. I waffled for a few days before turning to Lily once again. It's simple no-closure back was perfect for creating this dramatic hi-low waist. I wanted a more understated sleeve, so I went with something halfway between a cap and a short sleeve. And thanks to the new bow release, I had the perfect faux-closure to add on. The orange blossom was made to be paired with Lily."

LOTS of DOTS!!
"I'm often inspired by characters (especially Disney characters). When I saw Delphine for the first time my mind went right to Dizzy (Drizella's daughter in the Descendants movies...picture in comments). I felt the dress styles were close enough for what I wanted to do, so I went in search of paint splatter fabric and found this amazing stuff at
Michaels Stores
.
!! With loads of dots on this super bright and busy fabric, I decided to use my daughter's Delphine for the April sewing competition 💜. We used some crazy, mismatched buttons to go along with our fabric and bring out the different sizes and colors of dots, and even painted up a pair of glasses to match, just like Dizzy's. Added a couple Strawberry Blossom Bows and this girl was covered in paint splatter dots from head to toe!!"

"I used Joannes Keepsake Calico fabric
Anemone pattern, modified it to vintage length.
Amazon pettiskirt used under dress."

"When they announced Polka dot was the theme for the month of April, I knew exactly dress I wanted to replicate. What makes even better is being Shirley Temples birthday month too! So here’s my Polka dot entry of my little Shirley Temple Cerise."

"For this months challenge I had the pleasure of sewing for my friends beautiful daughter Indi 🥰💕
I made her a Camellia tutu with this stunning print 'Jijaka Sea Turtle' from the Jijaka collection at Spotlight that was developed by a group of amazing Aboriginal artists!
And I couldn't leave spotlight without this gorgeous rayon spandex print called 'Yumari Dreaming' designed by the Warlukurlangu artists so of course I had to make Indi an Iris dress as well"
Rachel Slimmon
"Gosh I love a drop waist dress!!
Matching “Lily” bestie dresses for my daughter and her BFF to wear to a wedding on the weekend!! They love dressing up the same!!
I used this gorgeous crepe so it’s a bit dressier for the wedding but As it’s beginning to freshen up with autumn days here I’ve used the full bodice lining in a flannelette so it’s still warm."
Chandy Mueller
"I made so many Orchid headbands just to have this one hate wearing them 😭 check out that side eye she’s giving me!!😒
Well I will wear them all then!"
